December 14, 2014 … family, food and fantasy

Yesterday was a family day.

Maggie in black, on the stairs (which are black)

With our daughter-in-law Rowena visiting from Brisbane, we went round to Helen and Vasely’s new house where we were joined by Anthony and Sarah and their two children, Maggie and Cooper.  Helen and Vasely have very nice and very black carpet throughout. Maggie was wearing black so I just had to take this shot of her sitting on the stairs.

A light dessert

We enjoyed a great pre-Christmas lunch together and enjoyed good food and drink. Mary’s fruit sticks seemed popular.

Celebrity Solstice

Celebrity Solstice berthed at Aotea Quay

Later in the day I went prowling, as I usually do, in search of images. I was near the Westpac stadium and looking up at the vast bulk of the cruise liner Celebrity Solstice. I lament the passing of more innocent times when the public had access to the wharves as of right, and if you applied to the shipping line, you could get a visitor pass to board the ship. It was amazingly effective advertising, designed to instil a yearning for the cruising life. Now everyone is a possible enemy and you can’t get near the ships, let alone on board them.

The length of the ship is breathtaking

The sheer bulk of this ship is staggering and as I was driving back to the Valley, I paused to see if I could convey some idea of its size. It towered over the wharf sheds and offices, but it was the length of the ship that most caught my imagination.  She is huge.

That’s all for now,

About wysiwygpurple

Retirement suits me well. I spend much of my time out making pictures, or at home organizing and refining my pictures. This blog provides me with a platform from which I can indulge my passion for improving my photography and at the same time analyze my thoughts about what I have seen, where I have been and what is happening in my life. My images set out to be honest, but that does not mean I have not adjusted them. I use software to display what I saw though the viewfinder to best advantage. My preference is for landscape and nature, and is mostly centred around my hometown of Wellington, New Zealand.
